Fête Film Shorts is a film screening held in lieu with NTU WKWSCI Fête Week and presented by OBJECTIFS films.
Admission is free.
The 4 short films featured are as follows:
1. Ah Ma by Anthony Chen
Ah Ma is lying in the hospital, her life hanging by a thread. Her family gathers by her deathbed to send her off. Overwhelmed by sadness, they struggle to find their own way of coming to terms with the impending end.
Anthony Chen graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s School of Film & Media Studies. Apart from directing in film, Anthony has served as a radio presenter, a freelance movie reviewer and has done work as an actor both on stage and on screen. His graduation film, G-23, which he wrote and directed has gone on to screen at over 25 film festivals around the globe and won awards in Korea, France, Belgium, Malaysia and Singapore. Ah Ma marks his second short film effort.
2. Becoming Royston by Nicholas Chee
Becoming Royston revolves around the coming of age of Boon Huat, who discovers his dream of becoming a filmmaker.
The co-founder of Originasian Pictures, Nicholas is also an accomplished photo-artist and a sponsored member of the Master Photographers’ Association based in the UK. Becoming Royston has been further developed into a full-length feature film and was nominated for Best Script, Best Cinematographer and Best Actor in the Asian Festival of First Films 2006 in Singapore.
3. Katong Fugue by Boo Junfeng
A film adaptation of a short play about a boy with a hidden life and a mother desperately trying to reach out.
Boo Junfeng is one of the most prolific Singaporean short film makers in recent years. His first short film Un Retrato de Familia (A Family Portrait) won the Silver Screen Awards for Best Film and Special Achievement at the 18th Singapore International Film Festival.
4. Sons by Royston Tan
Seeking to reach out to his son, a father expresses his wish to fix a relationship that has become cold and distant.
Known for his distinctive cinematic style, Royston has received over 41 international and local film awards for both his feature and short films, notably 15 and Sons. He has been recognized in Asia with several awards including ASEAN Director of the Year (2001), Young Artist of the Year (2002) by the National Arts Council in Singapore and in 2003, Netpac Jury has recognized him as one of Asia Most Promising Talents. In 2004, Royston Tan was cited as one of the “Top 20 Asian Heroes” by Time Magazine.
